Rename term "daemon" to something not so horrible Опции

Моё предложение, внесенное как идея для "мозгового штурма" с возможным будущим отражением на операционной системе ubuntu.

I guess my suggestion looks a bit strange.

As you can see, this is general suggestion that relates not to Ubuntu, but to Linux itself. I like Ubuntu. This is modern, safe and perspective OS. The only thing embarrassing and disturbing me is naming of some terms, for example, "daemon" for program running in background, or "kill" for command to terminate processes.

I am religious man, and I just can't understand why such a mystic, weird and horrible word as "daemon" was chosen. This really stops me using Linux.
Of course, somebody says that I'm suspicious, and this name comes from "Disk And Execution MONitor", but it's not. This is backronym and constructed after the fact. Well, but even in case of acronym, any author is free to pick any name for its program, and could choose different letters or sound for acronym. So why that word?
Why not using usual name, for example, "service" or maybe "agent"?
